Here are a couple course reviews from students out of the recent classes in Missouri...

After conducting a week of training with K in Missouri, I have a few comments I'd like to share.
- As usual, K did a phenomenal job taking the complicated information in Groundrod and breaking it down into something usable and easy to digest for an old infantryman.
- The Pistol Combatives ended up being conducted in a veritable monsoon which only added to the training value. It also became an impromptu vehicle recovery class as the range flooded beyond the ability of the vehicles to extricate. Excellent, focused training with personal attention given to every student.
- Hard Target Traveler was an introduction to most of the students on how to become harder to be kidnapped. And with the way the world is turning today, very applicable to all.
Course Review – Gunfight Concepts Pistol & Hard Target Traveler, June 2025
I recently had the great opportunity of attending the two day Gunfight Concepts: Pistol course followed immediately by the one day Hard Target Traveler course. I found both of these courses to be immensely valuable in furthering my personal development.
To condense my overall impression of Gunfight Concepts: Pistol as a whole, I’d say that it’s a course that identifies where your skills are, conveys an understanding of where they could be, and then instructs the proper exercises and methodologies to get them there. While that sounds simplistic on its face, it’s all the many details that K puts into that entire process that really make this class a standout. The course starts off with some great drills that K uses to asses each student’s baseline and fundamentals. K demonstrated a great ability to correctly identify the cause and effect issues of each student’s performance on the firing line and communicated the ways to correct those issues in a very concise and understandable way. I enjoyed the drills themselves and found them all to be very practical and at the same time challenging. The first day focused on building the student up to apply the correct fundamentals at speed—which I found to be a recurring theme of the course. As we learned in class, fundamentals have to be correct, but they also have to be fast. This course showed each student exactly how fast they could go before their fundamentals started to fall apart, and then specifically what work they can do to increase their speed while maintaining proper fundamentals. As the course progresses, the emphasis on speed, accuracy and fundamentals is maintained while the students are put into more complex defensive scenarios. Concepts like cover, movement, innocent bystanders, friendlies and how to properly navigate through these situations are thrown into the mix as the course progresses. K understands this balancing act of skills extremely well and his ability to diagnose each student and effectively communicate the correct solutions is what separates this course from the rest and makes it one of extremely high value.
The Hard Target Traveler Course packs a lot of information into a one day class and provides the student with a great number of considerations to take when traveling as well as a lot of practical ways to mitigate potentially grave threats. I would personally simplify the days material as: how to not be targeted, how to determine if you’re being targeted and how to mitigate being targeted once you are. As K points out in the beginning of class—it’s a huge subject matter condensed into one day. The material selected for the course, however, is all extremely practical and useful information for anyone traveling outside of areas familiar to them whether that be internationally or domestically. The many details of the course are too numerous to provide in a review, however they really are what make the course so good. Like all of CSG’s courses, the class matireal is informed by the extensive experience of its instructor and the reality of what threats are actually out there in the world and how they present themselves to targets. Those of us who are defensive minded should always be trying to expand our awareness of the world around us, as it is truly our first and best defense. Hard Target Traveler is a great class that explains what to look for, how to look for it, and some critical things you can do to save your own life if everything goes wrong.
